Homeschool Preschool – Space Activities

In our homeschool preschool, we are embarked on a space journey far away from the earth to learn about planets and the solar system through these space and solar system activities.

Solar System Identification Preschool Activity

Skills: Fine Motor, verbal, story telling

Materials: Solar System Printout, Poster Paper, Glue

Presentation Notes: 

  • Cut out the planets from the Solar System Printout so that you only have the 1st part of the Montessori Three Part Cards.
  • Glue the Planets one by one starting from the sun onto poster paper with your child.
  • Name the planets using the second part of the Montessori Three Part Cards.

Extension:

  • Repeat this activity over and ask your child to repeat the space scene from memory.
  • Naming the colors of the planets and point out the differences of the planets.
  • Tell your child about one characteristic of the planet.

Character Lesson: Listening to Instruction, Taking Turns, Concentration

Making a Spaceship Preschool Activity

Skills: Fine Motor, verbal, story telling

Materials: Spaceship Printout, Poster Paper, Glue, Martians Printout

Presentation Notes: 

  • Create the spaceship by gluing each part onto the poster paper with your child.
  • Ask your child how many martians would like to ride the spaceship. Then, cut out the number of martians to go into the spaceship with scotch tape in the back of them.
  • Ask your child to tape them to the spaceship.

Extension:

  • Color the spaceship
  • Color the martians
  • Make up a story about the martians and tell it to your child.

Character Lesson: Concentration, Persistence

Making a Rocket Preschool Activity

Skills: Fine Motor, verbal, story telling

Materials: Rocket Printout, Poster Paper, Glue

Presentation Notes: 

  • Create the spaceship by gluing each part onto the poster paper with your child.
  • Ask your child how many martians would like to ride the spaceship. Then, cut out the number of martians to go into the spaceship with scotch tape in the back of them.
  • Ask your child to tape them to the spaceship.

Extension:

  • Color the spaceship
  • Count the martians
  • Make up a story about the martians and tell it to your child.
  • Ask your child to retell the story about martians.

Character Lesson: Concentration, Persistence

Moon’s Phases Preschool Activity

Skills: fine motor, pattern matching, math

Materials: Moon Phases Printout

Presentation Notes: 

  • Assemble the moon’s phases in sequence with your child.
  • When assembling, you can count out the numbers on the cards.
  • Print out another copy of the cards, ask your child to match the numbers on the cards and line up the sequence.

Extension:

  • Color the moon cards.
  • Give your child a round cookie. Ask your child to pretend it’s a moon. With each bite, your child can imagine the moon is becoming a crescent.
  • With a round cookie cutter, you can make moons together with playdough. Ask your child to make moons of different shapes.

Character Lesson: Problem Solving, Concentration

Space Picture Creation

Skills: Fine Motor, creativity

Materials: All the creations for this week, poster board, glue, candle

Presentation Notes: 

  • Ask your child to assemble the moons, rocket, planets, spaceship andmartians on a big board.
  • Ask your child to tell you a story about the spaceship or the planets in the picture.

Extension:

  • Light a candle or a lamp whichever is safer for your children.
  • Ask your child to stare into the flame while holding the rocket. Pretend the rocket is about the fly off. Then, count down while staring into the flame.
